Both of us rolled off the bed and onto the floor. The gunshots lasted until the shooters had destroyed every inch of my room.
Once the gunshots were silent, we crawled out of the room, jumped to our feet, and ran to the living room. Thankfully, Sandy and John
had already left before the shots went off. Gabe grabbed my hand and led
the way to the door, but an unexpected fist punched his jaw when he opened
it. “Run, Minnie!” I released my small dog and watched her race out the
door while I tried to strike at the guy who hit Gabe. Unfortunately, another
guy burrito me into his buffed arms, pinning my arms to my side so that I
could not move.
I did not cease struggling to regain my freedom, but I watched in horror
how, with the one who threw the first punch, whom I assumed was the
leader, three more guys teamed up against my guy. “STOP! LEAVE HIM
ALONE!” I screamed out to them and worked my way out of the tight
grasp of the gorilla that held me captive. Then, I studied those men and saw that they weren’t ordinary. Too bad I would not back down. I slammed the heel of my foot into the guy’s big foot as hard as I could, which caused him to release me. I tried to run to Gabe, but the guy grabbed hold of my hair, making me shriek out, so I turned to face him and connected my right fist to his left jaw, followed by a left hook to his other jaw. He did not flinch but laughed hysterically instead. Out of rage, I tried to kick him in his sensitive area, but in a quick reflex, he grabbed my leg and flipped me to the floor on my back. He almost came at me, but I kicked him in the groin. As he gasped in pain, I jumped to my feet and saw that Gabe was handling the four guys like a pro until the one who had first punched him, who seemed to stand out, jabbed him real hard in the ribs. “Gabe!” I yelled out when he hissed in pain, and I tried to defend him, but the gorilla guy grabbed me again.
“Shoot him!” The gorilla guy ordered.
“NO,” I screamed, trying to free myself, “DON’T, PLEASE!”
The leader pulled out his gun and pointed it at Gabe as one of his
attackers held up his limp body.
I heard the pulled-back safety and hysterically yelled out with my head
inclined back with my chin in the air, so my view was directly up at the
ceiling, “MY LORD JESUS CHRIST! PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON
HIM!”
He pulled the trigger back, but again, gunpowder exploded from the
loaded weapon. Frustrated, the guy demanded, “Give me another gun!” One of his comrades handed him another firearm. He pulled the trigger, but there was more gunpowder injected out of that one. Hilariously, he went through the guns that he and the other four men had, which added up to nine, but the gorilla guy who struggled with me tossed his gun over to the leader. The leader pointed it at Gabe again, then looked at me and said, “Say goodbye to your Skull boyfriend.”
I held my breath, looked up at the ceiling, and prayed quietly to the
Lord God, admitting to the Creator, “There’s nothing too hard for You.
Please protect my husband.”
The gorilla guy laughed, saying, “You might as well give it up….” The
gun exploded in his leader’s hand, cutting off his words.
The leader shrieked in pain that time, “My eyes, I can’t see.”
The gorilla guy furiously turned me to face him and angrily slapped me
across my left cheek, sending me off balance and onto the floor. One of his
boys grabbed Sandy’s oversized clear glass vase, a gift from Aunt Amanda, and connected it to Gabe’s head.
“GAAAABBBBEEE!” I screamed through brimmed tears as I watched
blood trickle out of both nostrils before he collapsed to the floor. My heart
pounded in a rapid tempo so loud that I could hear it.
The gorilla guy kneeled to feel Gabe’s pulse and smiled, “The Skull is
history.” He said as he stood back and turned to me, “Time to come to
Poppa, princess.”
